On 21st August 2018 in Murara quarter/Goma, Maison des Jeunes Goma, together with the Catholic Youth Network for Environmental Sustainability in Africa (CYNESA), brought together holiday makers- mostly the youth, to participate in an anti-litter campaign during their holiday time. No one ignores the consequences related to waste (Diseases related to waste mismanagement, pollution of the environment and degradation of the landscapes).
During the campaign, more than 30 energized and dynamic young community members participated in the collection of waste in the streets and in the Maison de Jeunes. The aim was to ensure a clean environment and sanitation not only for them but also for those who were planning to hold their activities in the same compound.
Before collecting the garbage, the youth received advice by the manager of the Maison de Jeunes, Mr. ADEODAT, on how to manage waste not only in their houses but everywhere they go. Since Ebola is hitting the North Kivu province, I took this moment to pass on the message on how to take safety precautions to protect the whole community against the epidemic by observing some simple rules like washing their hands frequently.
After collecting the garbage, the team engaged in sorting out and separating the waste and finally proceeded to dispose off the rest.
