The Season of Creation provided an opportune moment for CYNESA Cameroon team, led by Fr. Innocent Akum, MHM, to organize a clean-up activity in their community.
After a series of sensitization programs, CYNESA Cameroon and parishioners of Archangel Raphael Parish, Bojongo, in the Catholic Archdiocese of Douala, turned up to rid their surroundings of litter. Armed with shovels, wheelbarrows and determination to put their faith in action, the team worked together to collect plastic bags and bottles and cleared drains of litter.
CYNESA Cameroon was set up in 2019, and is one of the newest chapters in the CYNESA family. Under the guidance of Mill Hill Missionary, Fr. Innocent, the team has grown and is setting new standards for awareness raising and action in the community, especially through their radio programs. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Fr. Innocent’s concern to especially address plastic pollution has not wavered. In the encyclical letter, Laudato Si’ Pope Francs addresses the issue of pollution and waste. “The earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth. In many parts of the planet, the elderly lament that once beautiful landscapes are now covered with rubbish.” (LS.21).
Actions such as the ones taken by CYNESA Cameroon and Archangel Raphael parish Bojongo, are signs of hope that by working together in our communities, inspired by Laudato Si’, we can change the state of our environment for the better.
