CYNESA Joins in Cleaning Exercise in Mombasa, Kenya.

On May 21st 2015, CYNESA volunteers residing in Mombasa took time to participate in a public environmental exercise in Jomvu constituency.
The event dubbed Jomvu Environmental Day had been organized amidst increasing garbage dump sites in the area which were as a result of poor waste disposal and management methods. The largest of the dump site was located just close to clinic and caused discomfort to the patients in terms of odor, some of whom are in-patients who visit the clinic for delivery services.

The event brought together 24 CYNESA volunteers, members of the public, the County Commissioner and Primary and Secondary school children, and was flagged off by the current Member of Parliament of the area.

It involved clearing the garbage from the dump sites, collecting litter across the streets as well as planting trees in these previously dump sites and in the schools.

CYNESA participants took action further by approaching on-lookers and passersby to share on the health hazards associated with poor waste disposal as well as encourage them to adapt to proper means of disposing off waste.

This exercise which was organized by the Jomvu Constituency development fund office is the first in a series of three other environmental activities set to be carried out across the constituency with the aim of advocating for proper waste disposal as well as bring to light the current challenges the world is facing based on poor interaction with the environment.

Another exercise is scheduled to take place on 30th May and a final one on 5th June, 2015 to mark the World Environment Day.
