The fourth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA4) is set to take place in Nairobi, 11th to 15th March.
Held every 2 years, the 4th assembly will focus on the twin themes of innovative solutions for environmental challenges and sustainable consumption and production.
The report of the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, describes innovative solutions as ““business unusual” approaches, including creative approaches to policy, finance, partnerships, education and the use of data, that help us understand environmental issues and improve sustainability.”
A much larger presence of faith leaders and representatives of faith-based organizations is expected at UNEA4. Facilitated by the office for Strategic Engagement with Faith-based Organizations, in the Policy and Programme Division of UN Environment, a series of “Faith for Earth” events are planned, during which the unique contribution of faith communities to the UNEA4 themes will be explored.
In partnership with the Brahma Kumaris, Islamic Relief and the Green Anglicans, CYNESA will host a side-event, focusing on “Lifestyle Changes based on Values and Ethics – The Role of Faith in promoting Sustainable Consumption and Innovative Technology”.
With a delegation of 7 drawn from the secretariat and team members from CYNESA Kenya, CYNESA Rwanda and CYNESA Zimbabwe, CYNESA will also be actively participating in official UNEA4 sessions, as a strong member of the Children and Youth major group. The Nairobi-based secretariat team has been preparing for close to a year now, keenly participating in the meetings of the Committee of Permanent Representatives, and looks forward to meaningful and actionable outcomes at UNEA4.
